When I read the very fitting obituary for Garnet in the Hamilton Spectator I was remembering working with him as the itinerant music teacher at Dr. Davey school. We had our challenges but it was a happy place. We felt our efforts were appreciated and the principal really cared for those kids.
Condolences to the family. He will be greatly missed by them and the community of Lakefield.

When Garnet taught at Adelaide Hoodless School in Hamilton, I taught across the hall from him. Many of his students had difficulty dealing not only with school but with life in general. It was a learning experience to watch how Garnet was able to help them with his superior teaching skills and more importantly use his calm positive outlook on life to make their day better. When Garnet and I both became Principals it was great to work with him at meetings. Once again his calm positive attitude shone through and he always managed to slide in a humorous comment. Garnet was a great guy. My condolences to Barb and family. Gary Birch

We lost a wonderful friend this pat week, someone who was always able to put a smile on your face and whose company you always enjoyed. Garnet was a compassionate man, who loved his family and devoted his life to their well being.
As a friend and colleague our time together was always filled with smiles and chuckles. He always had a joke up his sleeve and was a master at sharing it with you. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barb and the family who provided Garnet with such excellent care and support over this past while. Our memories will live on. Ken and Marianna Drake
