My heart goes out to the Strang family for sure, hold tight to each other. It was an honor to be Joyce s friend. Her knowledge and love of nature and the outdoors was a gift she shared easily - how very lucky I was to have had her as my friend.

Dear Fred, Heather and Family, My sincerest condolences on your families' loss. I always enjoyed seeing Joyce when she came into the store when I worked there. She will be joining her sweet husband, Fred Senior who I'm sure will have many new stories and jokes to tell her. Please take care of each other in this time of sorrow.

Joyce was the very young mother of two little boys, Freddie and Johnny when, as a little wolf cub, I met her at her home in a tiny bungalow on Birmingham Street in the old Town of New Toronto. She was the lucky wife of Baloo (Fred), a leader of the 1st New Toronto "B" Cub Pack. Very soon she and Fred had a new little addition, Joanne. I can remember how happy and sad I was when they moved to the hinterland of some place called Wexford Heights in Scarborough to find a new home for their growing family. By now I was in high school and pleased to hear from Joyce that she was started on her degree with the same determination and dedication she had given her family. I was impressed. I remember most her reaction to some of Fred's zany adventures. Once, for example he brought the whole family to Victoria Harbour to visit with his friend, my dad Les Richardson, and used his old '31 or '32 car with its square material covered roof. The problem was that the main bearings in the car were shot and oil poured onto the highway every time they went up a hill so Fred stopped at every garage and picked up water for the overheating and their discarded old oil to pour into the crankcase. He and my dad spent their vacation at a garage putting cigarette packages into the bearings to shim them up for the ride home. And how did Joyce react......she simply said "Oh, that's Fred." There was an oil slick on every hill on the 27 highway two weeks later when we drove home ourselves. To me she was a fine, gentle and determined woman who left with me an impression that has lasted a lifetime. Having lost our eldest son this January after an horrific three-year battle with Lymphoma, I can truly appreciate Joyce's loss to the boys, Joanne and the grandchildren. They have my deepest sympathy in their sorrow for having lost a mom of whom they must be justly proud.

Joanne, Fred, Heather, John and Paulette, I am so saddened by your Mom's passing. My Aunt Joyce was a wonderful woman, so full of kindness, warmth and intellectual curiosity. I will never forget the three Sisters traveling with me in mainland China in the late 1980's. It was a hard place to get around back then, for the most experienced of travelers. But Aunt Joyce led us through the streets of old Shanghai in the pouring rain with not an English speaker or sign in sight. We saw all the sights and celebrated New Year's Eve with Chinese "champagne". It was an adventure. Uncle Fred and Aunt Joyce took me in for a summer as I started out my career in journalism at the Toronto sun. I will always remember that generosity. My sympathies to each of you, I am there in spirit, Fred.

Condolences to your family on the passing of Joyce. My Mom, Joy Stange attended Kinmount United Church, with Joyce, back in the 'better' days. I know they had mutual admiration for each other, especially line-dancing together!
