Dear Aunt Elsie, Don & Natalie, Joan & John, Richard & Martha, Gordon & Sherry and families, Keith and I are saddened to hear that Uncle John has passed away, and we send our deepest sympathy to you. I have many fond memories of Uncle John, including childhood family visits and trips to Ontario as a young adult. Uncle John and Aunt Elsie have been wonderful role models, caring, deeply interested in what family members were doing, hard working and generous. I'm happy that both Uncle John and Aunt Elsie were able to meet Keith and visit us here in North Vancouver. The internet has been helpful in that we were able to share through pictures some special family events such as Uncle John's milestone 90th birthday in 2008. Our thoughts are with you as you honour Uncle John. With love, Beverly and Keith Corson

I was saddened to hear of John's passing. He was so kind to us when we moved into the cottage next door on Lower Buckhorn.

I was sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a truly gentle man, quiet and reserved but a man whom one looked up to. When my Dad was unable to get out and about John came and visited him often. When he learned that my plants dried out too quickly, he made me a low plant stand! He will be missed by not only his family but his many friends!

It is with sad heart to read about John, however very happy memories will surface whenever we think of John Whatley and family. My memories go back as far as Baie D'Urfee days on Birch Hill Rd. when I would baby sit John and Elsie's children (we were neighbours who lived just across the road). What a coincidence that The Whatleys ended up buying property from my parents many years later on Deer Bay and so the reconnection was familiar and rewarding. I send love from all the Paige family to all the Whatley family. Please accept our deepest sympathy. Susan (ne Paige)

Good friends to my grandparents, Maurice and Dorothy Paige, John and Elsie Whatley bought a lovely hilltop property from my grandfather on Lower Buckhorn Lake back in the 1970's. They went on to build an attractive cottage-home there and became a part of the close-knit community that was entered via Paige Road (named after my grandfather). My childhood impressions of Mr. Whatley were very positive. To me, he was genuine, easygoing, soft spoken-- a true gentleman. Like my easygoing and gentle grandmother (Dorothy), John was in his 93rd year of life when he passed. What a good, long life he had (as had she). Condolences to the Whatley family from Nova Scotia. Fred Wolno and family.
