WHITE, MARIE EVELYN At Fairhaven Home for the Seniors on Wednesday, December 11, 2002, Marie (Steel) formerly of Lakefield in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Ross White. Loving mother of Sheila (James Wilson) of Buckhorn, David (Nancy) and Jo Ann all of Guelph and grandmother of Mark (Kristen) and Scott Wilson, Kristi White, Jaime (Mike Hamilton), Lee Ann and Jennifer Heffernan and the late Jason White and great granddaughter Abbey Jane Hamilton. Sister of the late Stella Grenkie and Mac Steel. Funeral service will be held at the HENDREN FUNERAL HOME, Lakefield, on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 2:00 pm. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment of cremated remains at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto at a later date. Mark Wilson, Lee Ann Heffernan, Kristi White, Jaime Hamilton, Kristen Wilson, Jennifer Heffernan, Scott Wilson, Mike Hamilton On August 19, 1915 MARIE EVELYN STEEL was born in Teeswater, Ontario, daughter of the late JOHN McKAY STEEL & MARY ELIZABETH FOWLER. When she was 17 Marie went to Toronto to attend Northern Vocational Collegiate.L She worked as a hairdresser in Trenton and Leaside until she married GEORGE ROSS WHITE on October 19, 1938. In 1975 when Ross retired they moved from Fergus to a home on Chemong Lake near Omemee. A later move in 1993 brought them to Lakefield. When her health deteriorated Marie became a resident of Fairhaven Home in October 1997. Marie was a very busy lady who enjoyed many different craft activities. She also enjoyed time in her garden or with a good book, as well as a game of Euchre or Bridge. Her musical preference tended towards country. Baseball had been her sport when she was younger and she also enjoyed tennis and swimming. While living in Fergus Marie had been active with the U.C.W. and the skating club. She also spent time as a volunteer at Groves Memorial Hospital. Together with Ross Marie had enjoyed several winters in Florida. She will be remembered as always being available to help anyone in need. On Wednesday, December 11, 2002, Marie passed away at Fairhaven Home for the Aged, Peterborough, Ontario Survived by her husband ROSS; children SHEILA (JAMES WILSON), DAVID (NANCY) & JO ANN WHITE, grandchildren MARK (KRISTEN) & SCOTT WILSON, KRISTI WHITE, JAIME (MIKE HAMILTON), LEE ANN & JENNIFER HEFFERNAN and great granddaughter ABBEY JANE HAMILTON. Predeceased by her parents JOHN & MARY STEEL; step-mother GLADYS STEEL; sister STELLA GRENKIE; brother MAC STEEL and grandson JASON WHITE.
