Obituary of Michael Everett Taylor

Michael Everett Taylor. April 24th, 1959 - May 1st, 2024

Michael, known as Mike or as his Ojibwa name, Makadewemkwat, Daddy O, Dad, Pap, and various other well-earned monikers, passed away peacefully at home, on his terms, with his loving family surrounding him. Mike is predeceased by his parents, Everett Taylor (1999), and Shirley Taylor (2018), sister-in-law Phyllis Brathwaite (2013) and brother-in-law Chris Brathwaite (2020). The old adage that “To know him is to love him” has never been truer for Mike. With a quick laugh, smiling eyes, and wicked sense of humor, Mike was known to have one of the biggest hearts around. Always happy to lend a hand to a neighbour, cut anyone’s grass, catch a NASCAR race, hockey game, or the UFC fights, Mike was the exact kind of friend, husband, father, and Pap that our family needed him to be. We have all been truly blessed by the Creator for placing him in our lives. Mike was known to the Curve Lake Nation for his dedication and commitment to the heritage and culture of his land and peoples and was heavily involved in the Curve Lake Powwow. Mike will be missed dearly by his loving and dedicated wife of nearly 30 years, Julia Taylor (nee Craig), his children, Tari Lynn, Jessica Howson, Gary Craig (Lori), Owen Taylor (Mel), Corina Willshaw (Jordan Willshaw), Chay Wallace (Matt Wallace), Ivan, Tina, and Brydence, his 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also, by numerous extended family and chosen family members.

Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched... For nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.”

Arrangements have been entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME – LAKEFIELD CHAPEL. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
