I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, partner and friend. I knew her as "Mrs. Kennedy," my Grade 12 and 13 English teacher at LCVI. She was one of the teachers who had the biggest impact on my high school years and the path of my career. I was always eager to get to her class, and grade 12 enriched English especially was like a haven for me that I cherished. I vividly remember how she would sit on her desk, swinging her feet, and with a sparkle in her eyes would prompt us with exciting debate topics or challenging or controversial interpretations of the book we were reading. We gobbled it up and the atmosphere was electric in there. I went on to become an English professor and she's the teacher who most definitely put me on this path. I wish I had known her outside of school or had returned to talk with her. This must be such a loss to you all and I hope her memory will be a blessing.

Eleanor was one of my high school English teachers at FFSS. She was smart and knew her books, kind and very approachable, but also strong & able to control the class (with many who would rather have been studying any other subject.) She always dressed so professionally and many looked up to her as a role model, balancing her career and motherhood, which was not common at that time. I will always remember her kindness sending a personal note when I graduated; she truly cared about her students and followed their path in life.
In later years, I was thrilled to reconnect with her when I moved back to the area, and enjoyed talking to her at curling events and working with her at the fair.
My deepest condolences to the family. I’m sure your many beautiful memories of Eleanor will live on in your hearts.

“ she made the world a better place “
As I didn’t have a sister .. I was lucky enough to spend time at Sugar Bush Lodge every summer. From tiny to teen. Meaning I was there with Leslie and the “ tiny part “ was roaming around the lodge, taking the fishing boats out for a tour ( 8 ho evinrude in wooden Peterborough boats) helping fill the pop cooler in the tuck shop and last but not least… jumping on the beds in the girls summer cabin. Yup I confess. Turns out Aunt Helen could see our heads bobbing up And down right from the kitchen window. Then as we all girl Oliver cousins grew … we were lucky enough to be offered a “ first job “ working as waitresses for the lodge kitchen.we leaned a lot. Eleanor was older than Leslie and I and didn’t seem to want to join us in bed jumping. She was classy lady and I didn’t see a lot of her.. She was going to school to become a teacher.. wow … in later years after she was married and lived at the house near Kennedy garage .. mom and I stopped in lots. Mom and she were close.i guess I just admired Eleanor ( we called her Jeannie ) .. I grew up watching her turn into a proud wife and mother of 2 great children, and still be a teacher . Wow watched her visit mom a lot when Dad passed away suddenly. . . I saw her more often in recent years… we used to meet at Lakefield tim Hortons for a big chat. . Where does time go ? know she hurt a lot.. . She still curled and carried out family duties.
In summary I can only go back to “ she was kind and classy”. I will miss her . I only hope that she and aunt Helen and mom Grace are playing scrabble up there .. with no pain and lots of giggling. miss you Jeannie
