CULLITON: Dr. Elsie Irene

Elsie Culliton of Lakefield passed away peacefully at PRHC on July 28, 2023, in her 97th year.  Elsie grew up on a farm in Manitoba. She took her mother’s suggestion to “do something impossible“ and became a medical doctor in 1951. She had a full general practice starting in northern Manitoba then in various places in Ontario ending in Orangeville/Shelburne.
Her other interests included poetry writing, hiking, skiing and painting. 
She will be remembered for her kindness and compassionate treatment of all people.  Elsie is sadly missed by her spouse Ellis Culliton of Lakefield, her children Geoff Culliton (Anu) of Nepean, Dr. Margaret Laura Culliton (Wesley Harris) of Corner Brook, NFLD, and step-son Hugh Culliton (Laura) of Belleville.  Loving grandmother of Shaan, Neena, Laurel, Francine, Tristan and Duncan.  Predeceased by her parents David & Irene and her siblings Dr. Margaret Bigelow (Howard), Gordon Barr and Frances Smythe.  Cremation has taken place.  A funeral service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Saturday August 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  A reception will follow in the Heritage Room of the Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be made to the PRHC Foundation as expressions of sympathy and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
