MOHER: John Joseph
Of Douro was welcomed home to our Lord on July 27th, 2023. John was born on August 1st, 1935, the youngest child of the late Frank Moher (1937) and Elizabeth Doherty (1981). He was the faithful and devoted husband of Marie (Winn) for 61 years. John is the cherished father of Frank (predeceased 2008) (Debbie), Raymond, Karen (Gordon) Walker, and Lorraine. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Joe (Mary Grace), Jon-Erik, Mitchell (Gillian), Cameron, Kevin, and Mary (Branden) and proud great-grandpa to Stevie-Anne, Kai, and Maddox. John is also predeceased by his brother Bill (2019), and sisters Loretto (1928), Elizabeth (John) Gooley (2008), Margaret (Clem) Lucas (2021), and Frances (Norman) Winn (2017). He is survived by his sister-in-law Jean Winn and predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Mary Winn, and Frank and Teresa Winn. John was raised in Douro on the family farm and as a boy he attended S.S. #4 and S.S #7 schools in Douro, and St. Peter’s High School in Peterborough. In addition to farming with his brother Bill, he was a dedicated radiator technician at Madill & Post Garage for 47 years. John enjoyed traveling with Marie to Ireland, Italy, England, France, Germany, and Austria; they also enjoyed a Caribbean cruise and numerous trips to the States. Despite having visited the beauty of the east and west coasts of Canada, he once said “the oceans are nice, but I do prefer the look of a hayfield”. John delighted in attending county music jamborees. He loved music, was always a hard worker, had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed daily trips to Tim Horton’s with Marie. Most important to John was his deep Catholic faith. He prayed the Rosary each day, attended early morning Mass at St. Peter’s, and weekly Mass in Douro. John was a member of the St. Joseph’s Douro Knights of Columbus. Friends and relatives are invited to call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES-LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Monday July 31st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place (on John’s 88th birthday) at ST. JOSEPH’S RC CHURCH, Douro on Tuesday August 1st at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Douro. Community luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall.
