To Kathy, Jeff and Brian, Jared, Melissa, Trisha, Carrie and Beth,
My Mom, Bonnie and I send our warm hugs to you all! Joan was such a wonderful and favourite friend to Sadie! Thank goodness they were also nursing classmates or we would never be cousins! My mother has so many wonderful memories spent with Auntie Joan or just chatting on the phone!
I have so many fantastic childhood memories spent visiting Auntie Joan and Uncle Dave and my favourite cousins! Also memories of Auntie Joan stressed over what we might be getting into or up to next! Her eyelashes would be batting pretty hard at some points!
I truly wish I could have given you one last hug Auntie Joan before we meet again one day! I know my mom wishes very badly for one more chat on the phone!
Much love to you all!
Susan

So sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. My condolences to the family. Joan and my Mom shared some great times together. Both ladies were struggling with illness but they managed to keep their luncheon dates in support of each other . We appreciated the friendship and commitment to keep each other smiling!!

Dear Kathy, Jeff, and Brian;
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Your parents made everyone feel like family when they owned the store and it was wonderful to carry on this friendship after they retired to the lake. Joan and Dave were kind and caring neighbours. We miss them!

Our deepest sympathy to Kathy, Brian and Jeff and families on the loss of their dear mother. There are many folks on Big Cedar with great memories of Joan and Dave at the corner store. They were a great support to our mom when she was left alone. I think she and Joan talked every day. I was very glad to join my sisters in a great visit last fall with Joan. Her quick wit and sense of humour still shone. Our love and prayers are with you all.

Kathy, John and family members, my heartfelt condolences on your loss., may her great memories sustain you all.
Joan was a wonderful person to all she met, I have good memories of when we both worked at Armstrong’s Cedarwood Boutique, and many laughs as we worked together. May she RIP with Dave.

Dear Kathy, Jeff and Brian,
I am so sorry to hear about Aunt Joan. I am thankful that I had a chance to visit her a few weeks ago when I was staying at Bill and Carol’s.
Our visit was an unexpected one but your mother was happy to see mom and I and regaled us with a story that starred Jeff, a debit card and some beer,
When I think about Aunt Joan these are some of the things that come to mind: Your mom had a great sense of humour and was a pretty funny story teller. She was a wonderful hostess who always went out of her way to make everyone feel at home and I have fond memories of the holiday family dinners that your mom and dad graciously hosted when we were young. She was kind and helpful and carried herself with grace and dignity.
I am going to miss talking to my Aunt Joan.
Please pass on our condolences to everyone.
Love Janice, Lisa, Lori and Andrea ❤️

Our deepest sympathy to Kathy, Brian, Jeff and the whole family. We remember Joan and Dave at church and they were such a special couple. Joan would help when we made Easter eggs and Kathy would sell them at the pharmacy to help out our fundraiser. They were always so helpful when we had church suppers in the past. It is a blessing that they will be re-united now. Yvonne and Terry McMahon

Auntie Joan was a special lady, very kind, loving and welcoming to all. She will be remembered for many things but what sticks out in my mind and many others I’m sure was all the goodies she would bake. Her last name being Baker was so appropriate because man could she bake!! She always had some baked goods on hand whenever anyone stopped by and would always share her recipes when asked. She will be dearly missed by everyone and my heart goes out to Brian, Jeff, Kathy, grandchildren, great grands and everyone else who loved her. Sending prayers, hugs and all my love for comfort during this difficult time. She is together again with her one true love Uncle Dave and for that we are grateful.

After reading Joan’s beautifully written obituary, the reference to her “primary focus on reuniting with Dave” was easy to understand. Whenever Amy and I had the opportunity to visit with Brian and Ralph, it always included a drop in to see Dave and Joan, either at the lake or at the apartment. It was easily apparent from our first visit with Dave and Joan that their marriage was filled with joy, humour, understanding, compassion and love. Through their banter, filled with gentle needling, it was abundantly clear that they enjoyed being together.
Our sincere condolences to Joan’s entire extended family and friends. Be comforted in knowing that Joan is reunited with her beloved Dave and God holds both of them in the palm of His hand.

I remember summer trips to Stoney Lake cottage as a young boy involved stopping at Big Cedar store in the early a.m. Uncle Dave coming down from the house and turning on the gas pumps. Aunt Joan welcoming us into the house, (dog and all) serving breakfast and excited to hear about what was going on in our lives. It was the start of summer and many memories to follow.
Always kind and full of humour, she will be missed dearly. xoxo
