Dave was our "tree guy" for over a decade. We were always impressed by his knowledge, integrity, reliability and good humour. After the job was finished, we always enjoyed talking to him about shared interests, particularly his view of nature and the need for balance and conservation. We are sorry that he will not be able to pursue these goals in retirement as he had hoped to. His death is a huge loss to his family and to the community at large. We send our condolences to all members of his family. We will miss him.

Dear Judy & the Hyland family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on Dave's passing. I knew Dave & Judy, from my years working with them at YSM, Evergreen, and involvement at Church at the Mission. Dave was kind and caring, and so kind and encouraging in reaching out and supporting and mentoring the young men that he worked with at the Mission. I would also see Dave & Judy, after they moved away, come back to the city for several mission events, which included several funerals. Know of my prayers & support of you all during this difficult time.
Blessings & Prayers,
Ann Stocker

We were shocked and dismayed to hear of Dave's passing literally 9 days after he and his crew dealt with our trees on our Fraser St. property. He has cared for our trees for 9 years and we trusted his judgement and knowledge implicitly.
We are aware of the many supports your family has in the community and trust that your family can draw strength from that knowledge. Dave showed so much integrity and respect in dealing with others!
Our sincere condolences.

Dave was and always will be a beacon of light and hope. In a word, his essence was that of childlike wonder and of pure Joy. That's what he brought to our lives and any being who connected with him.
It didn't matter how dark your day was, if you ran into Dave he would automatically brighten your world. He had that power to lift you up, bring a smile to your face and make you feel like the moment was truly a gift. Our families share a deep connection, and Dave felt it. He always wanted to get together and have fun, play games and share our dreams about the future. His energy made you feel truly alive. The spirit of Dave will live on inside all of us through the magical memories of the times we shared. We love you Dave. We love you Hylands.

Sending our deepest love to the Hyland family upon the passing of their beloved father and husband and our cherished friend. Some of our most treasured family memories involve Dave and his adoring family. We will hold them close forever. Dave had an energy and enthusiasm for life and a beautiful committment to a life 'well lived' with thoughtfulness, integrity and deep meaning. He will be deeply missed. Our heartfelt condolences to his loving family.
My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird - equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast: there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.
Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young and still not half-perfect?
Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work.
Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here.
Which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart and these body-clothes,
A mouth wich which to give shouts of joy to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
Telling them all, over and over,
How it is that we live forever.

Dave was very generous with his energy - a person who was welcome everywhere. He always greeted friends like he had been looking for them - an inspiring kind of warmth that was contagious and made everything better. I am grateful for so many times that a chat with Dave lifted my spirits. My love and thoughts are with his family who lost him much too soon.

Very recently Dave and I chatted about slowing down, walking with our wives, and enjoying our families. He always struck me as someone who got a lot out of experiencing what was in front of him, whatever it was, in the moment. I feel richer in life for just knowing him.
Every time I will receive a half-hearted slash or a push from behind on the ice, I will remember him fondly. Thanks for who you were Dave.

I've only met Dave twice. What a kind soul and an amazing father. The first time I met Dave he was so proud of Nathan finding his 'tribe' with his falconry family. I will never forget Dave. My heart and thoughts are with his family and friends.

My sincerest condolences to the Hyland family.
I am a good friend of Gwen,Tom, the girls and also Betty. I met Dave once when I spent a couple of days with Betty and the family after Warren’s passing. Dave and Judy were so kind and easy to get to know and many laughs were had while we talked, played games and hung out. My favourite memory is when the whole family decided to jump into the lake together, clothes and all, in order to honour Warren’s memory. Dave was one of the first in and the last out. He didn’t care that it was Oct and cold, he jumped in and enjoyed the moment with his family.
I am so sorry for your loss, and am praying for you all during this difficult time.

Dear Judy, Joseph, Nathan, Daniel and Emma. There are no words of comfort that will lessen the pain for your loss. In time the memories, the reflective pauses, the joy, the “family sharing” over the 32+ years you all have shared together will surround you with so much warmth. It’s been my absolute blessing to have been part of the Hyland “family”. Sybil

Dear Judi, kids, Betty, Gwendy and Donna
Gwendy shared the news earlier this week of Dave's sudden passing. It brought back a flood of memories of our time at HiIltop chapel. The non-stop shenanigans with the young people. His love for the Lord. His encouraging words to those who crossed his path.
I have a vision of Jesus hugging Dave with a lineup waiting their turn. Rest in Peace my friend.
