I first met Mr. Howard at Williams Lake in the mid 1960’s, I was 5 or 6 years old. His cottage was a few doors down from our family cottage. In the early 1970’s, I got to know Rob better. I was fascinated that he had a full-size plane in his living room there. We couldn’t get over it!
In the years that followed, Rob became a great friend to our family. He & my mom would have some great conversations about everything under the sun. He served in the military for a number of years with the Royal Cdn. Artillery. (Both my parents were RCAF) He was a great teacher, and a very kind person. His experiences & worldly travels gave us a good perspective & outlook on what life has to offer. Rob & Barb’s humanitarian travel stories were so interesting! “The World is Your Oyster”
In August 1997 a tornado came thru Williams Lake which decimated property & structures in its path, Rob’s included. Rob was thrown into the lake. In dismay of what had happened & daze, he got to the surface and swam to shore. The story hit news as far away as British Columbia & hit the front page of The Toronto Star. We remember to this day how lucky they were to have survived!
After Rob sold the cottage, we lost touch until my friend, Gwen reconnected with Mr. Howard in 2015! Her exited Facebook post of the encounter was a blessing in finding Rob & Barb again, keeping well & enjoying life in Lakefield!
I am so grateful to have reunited with Rob again, but sad I didn’t get up to visit in December.
I am saddened there is no celebration of his life. Some of us need closure.
Rest in Peace Mr. Howard & Thank you for your service. I will remember you, always.

We honour Rob, our comrade (RCL Br.77) & local Veteran (1945-1969 RCA 32 Brigade).
He took my father, George to join the pipe & drums of the 48th Highlanders of Canada upon arriving in Canada from Aberdeen. Reconnecting 7 years ago taking my daughter, Kelly to Stewart Dr for Halloween treats seeing Rob & meeting Barb.
A recent visit was an enjoyable afternoon listening to music, recounting his worldly travels, his humor & witt.
Thank you for your guidance,
Thank you for your poem "Rob is Fine" &
Thank you for your service.
