SMITH: Lewis Collins
Passed away at Centennial Place, Millbrook on Saturday June 5, 2021. Lewis Collins Smith of Apsley in his 91st year. Lewis began working as a young man at the Faraday Mines. His spirit of adventure led him surveying in remote areas of Eastern Canada. Lewis came home and built the Narrows Point Marina on Chandos Lake and ran it for 7 years before opening Peterborough Power Equipment for the next 10 years. He then transitioned to General Electric where he worked the remainder of his career in the Large Motors Division. Lewis loved spending time outdoors, whether it was trapping, fishing, logging or splitting wood. He was also a master craftsman and he and Jo-Ann built their own home on Jack Lake where they enjoyed time with their grandchildren. He loved his trips to Hawaii and hanging out at the Mill. Loved and missed by his wife of 59 years, Jo-Ann (nee Friar) and his son Collin (Lara MacGregor) of Apsley. Loving Papa of Aidan, Sebastian and Sayan Smith. Survived by his brothers-in-law Robert Dudley (Iris) and Don Friar (Lorraine), and loving sister-in-law “Caroly Ann’ Kent (Paul). Predeceased by his parents Charlie and Alice, sisters Rosalie McColl (Chesel), Lillian Leard (Harold), Virginia McCarten (Hugh), Iris Dudley and brothers Edwin Smith (Dorothy) and Bert Smith (Shirley). Forever in the hearts of his nieces and nephews. A private family funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Apsley.
