Marie and George were like another mother and father to me. We shared many Christmas mornings together waiting for my dad to finish his tea so we could see what Santa brought. Although I lost touch over the years, George, you and Marie were often in my thoughts. My condolences.

I am very sad today to learn of the passing of Marie. I am also very grateful to be able to watch her funeral online since few of us were allowed to attend due to the Covid pandemic.
Marie was like a member of the family of my father, Dr. Ted Cragg, our mother, Florence, my sister Liz and myself.
Dad hired her as his office nurse when he started his practice as an eye surgeon at the Peterborough Clinic in 1951, and Marie was 18 years old. They stayed together until he retired in 1981, unable to continue his practice due to advancing Parkingson's disease. Marie stayed on at the Clinic in the eye department until her retirement as the longest-standing employee in the Clinic's long history (opened in 1921).
Marie joined us in most major events in our family - particularly weddings and funerals. It just wouldn't be the same without Marie and George there.
I still remember attending her wedding in 1954 to her wonderful man, George Lord, whom we would all come to know and love as much as we did Marie. The wedding was in what my dad delighted to call "Hootonville", where she grew up on her family farm.
Marie loved my dad and mother as if they were her own family, yet she was always respectful and addressed him as Dr. Cragg all his life. After many years, she felt comfortable enough to call my mother Florence.
While she felt the closeness with my family, the feeling was mutual. I feel like I have lost a beloved family member with Marie's leaving us.
My deepest condolences go out to George, her husband of 66 years and her best friend. I'm sure many friends will rally around to be of help and support, but nobody can take the place of Marie.
My heart reaches out to George at this extremely difficult time.
It has been a real joy to have had Marie in my life. I will truly miss her.
Paul Cragg MD (ret'd)

Sending you a big hug Uncle George. We have lots of great memories of visits with you and Aunt Marie. One especially when you both came out for the Brier and Mom and Dad showed our house to you and set the alarm off. Coming home to see you and Dad talking to the RCMP and Mom and Aunt Marie laughing their heads off around the corner of the house will be a favourite memory!! Lots of Love Gary and Julie

RIParadise Marie. I met Marie at the golf club where she and George belonged, when I worked there early 2000s. I feel I was blessed to live in Lakefield at that time and enjoy her often. Such a grand, sweet, lady who made everyone around her feel special. Arlene

Our thoughts and prayers are with you George during this time of sadness. Both Doug and I enjoyed all our times together with you and Marie. Doug, while out on your lawn, and me within my office discussing business. Our conversations were always enjoyable. May the memories of Marie you hold close to your heart help to give you peace and soften your sadness.

Dear George.
We were so sorry to hear the news of Marie's passing. Community minded, lovely, warm & caring are some of the words that come to mind when we think of Marie. She was a caring neighbour, and a dedicated long-time library volunteer with a sense of humour that would never fail to brighten my day. We will miss her smiling face.

So sorry to hear of Marie's passing. She was such a wonderful lady always with a big hello and a wave. She was such a great neighbour and was always out in her absolute pristine yard!! I remember her cutting across the backyards for a visit and chat with my parents. She was such a sweet lady who will be missed by all who knew her. ❤

Such a wonderful, lovely person. As a child growing up in Lakefield I would see Marie and George walking together and I always thought what a handsome couple they were. As an adult I got to know Marie better. Such a delight to be in her presence. Beautiful lady inside and out. Will miss her warm smile and kind words always spoken.
