I heard about Barbara's passing from her friend Elaine who lives in Beacon Hill. I am sorry for your loss.
I am the current director of the Beacon Learning Centre which used to be called Beacon Hill Cooperative Nursery School. I understand that Barbara was the founder of our centre. I would like you to know that she really started something! I would say that since the beginning at least 3,000 children have passed through our doors. We now have full time childcare for toddlers and preschoolers but, not forgetting our roots, we still have a part time nursery school program.
Warm regards,
Jackie Ruano

Barbara and I have shared a long journey, over 40 or more years. She has always been avid in any community she lived in; the latest looking after the Seniors Club, at the top of their street. I gave Rob a picture of our son with Barbara as she gave him an award for his high school graduation; that was in 1987! As a matter of fact Jim introduced Barbara to Rob when the two of them were at a Bell Canada golf tournament. They needed a place to stay over after the tournament. He was smitten enough, that the next week-end he came to visit us in Ottawa with the purpose of seeing her again...… They made a marvelous couple. So many wonderful memories, so many grand times together!!! She will always remain in our hearts!!!!

Rob and family. So very sorry to hear about Barbara’s passing. Barbara was a neighbor whom I met through our neighborhood book club. She was an avid reader and always had wonderful stories to share about books she had read and interesting places she had lived and visited. She was such a kind, happy person who was always at the ready to lend a hand wherever she could. Her infectious joy for life touched everyone. She was a very special lady who will be missed.
