Obituary of Norma Ayotte

AYOTTE, Norma Alice Gertrude (nee. Shearer)

On Sunday, February 10th, 2019 in her 94th year, Norma Alice Gertrude Ayotte (nee Shearer) passed away peacefully while having her afternoon nap. She was granted her lifelong wish to leave this world exactly how she wanted. Reunited now with her parents Gavin Stuart and Ellen Louise Shearer, beloved husband Paul and cherished grandson Scott. She will also be having a grand old time catching up with her sisters Ruth, Olive, Karen and brother Gavin. Together now they can enjoy Heaven’s eternal peace, love and happiness. Norma is heart wrenchingly missed by her brother John and sisters Ellen and Joan. Forever in her children’s hearts John (Linda), Bonnie (Allan), Richard and Karen (Jim). As her (predeceased) grandson Scott would say, “She will be astronomically missed by her grandchildren,” Joseph (Krystal), Terry, Michael, Amy (Scott), Norma-Jean, Jamie-Lee and Autumn-Sky and  great  grandchildren Ty and Morgan. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Norma truly lived her life honouring her namesake Saint Gertrude of Halfta. Norma was kind, loving, gentle with the purest soul. She never spoke ill of anyone but most of all she was giving. It gave her immense joy giving and helping others. She devoted her life to her family. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. We can also thank her for our freedom. She was a veteran of WWII. She loved bird watching, puzzles, crosswords, reading and visits with her sister Ellen and brother John. And of course her favourite pastime dining out with family members helped pass time as she got older. With a smile we will always remember her cheering for the Leafs during the hockey games she loved to watch. Norma lived an extraordinary life, living through many decades of vast growth, inventions and historical events. From travelling by horse and buggy, and having no running water or electricity to all the modern technology that she would just shake her head at and say, “I will never understand how all that stuff works.” Norma lived a long healthy, happy life on her farm never having to be hospitalized or put in a nursing home.  Private arrangements entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL.
