Obituary of Raymond Albert Thomas Clancy

CLANCY, Raymond Albert Thomas

We are devastated to announce the sudden passing of Ray Clancy at home on March 23 with his beloved wife of 53 years Sharon (nee Jewell) by his side, after a courageous 10 year battle with Parkinson’s. He will be sadly missed by proud and adoring daughter Cheryl, loving son-in-law Brent, cherished granddaughters Megan, Katie (John), and special little great grandson Leo. Ray is a proud brother of Larry (d. Ann), Marlene (Tony) and John (Liz) and proud uncle of many nieces and nephews and nephew and godson Louis Borges. He is special cousin to Barb and Jim Reid, Dawn (Ari) adorable travel buddies Natalie and Amelia, Cleve Gallagher as well the Gallagher and Lemmon families. Ray was predeceased by his Great Aunt Mary and Great Uncle Arthur, Mary, Bill, Murney, Eva and father Ray Clancy Sr. as well as his loving mother and father-in-law Bette and Eldon Jewell. Ray began his working career at the famous Peterborough Canoe Company. He then moved to Scarborough to attend the Provincial Institute of Trades where he earned his welding papers. He returned to Lakefield where he married Sharon and worked for Mick Magee Welding and then Outboard Marine. During these years his family moved to a 10 acre hobby farm. Much work and fun with horses, cows, and chickens followed. Ray’s passion, however, was Masonry. He was Master of Clementi Lodge, 1985; Grand Steward of Grand Lodge, 1990; Thrice Puissant Grand Master of Peterborough Lodge of Perfection of Scottish Rite Mason 1992; He received his Honorary 33 degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Canada in 1996. He is a member of the Rameses Shriners and Life Member of the Kawartha Shrine Club of Peterborough. He was also past Poppy Chairman of the Lakefield Legion Branch 77. In retirement, he travelled the world. Among his favourite destinations were Cairo, Tunisia, Greece, New Zealand, Hawaii and Rome. He also enjoyed his cottage on Stoney Lake and canoeing with Sharon in the moonlight. He also enjoyed pool, skating and lacrosse. His most important legacy however was his love for his family and friends. He loved his close circle of Lakefield friends who he has known since childhood and who knew of the twinkle in his eye and his mischievous escapades like crossing Canada in a boxcar with Morley Clysdale when they were 16. Sharon and Ray’s is a beautiful, love story that made our family possible. He was the father and grandfather of every little girl’s dreams. He taught us so many life lessons that we will carry with us forever. We love you and will miss you more than you can ever know. There will be no public service, however, the family would appreciate donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Parkinson’s Foundation in Ray’s memory and may be made by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
