I am deeply saddened this morning after finding out about the passing away of Dr. Meneley. He was one of my favourite professor at UOIT during my undergraduate studies. I was so impressed by his vast knowledge, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to learn from him. I remember that during each of his lecture, he would take a few minutes to speak generally of good practices in one's professional life, such as importance of continuous learning. I inspire to be like him one day. He will forever be missed. Rest in peace, my heartfelt condolences to his family.

Dan Meneley was pleasure to be around. I enjoyed many of his courses as a student at UOIT, and have many fond memories of his anecdotes and analogies. His attitude and demeanour were as instructive as his lectures, I really treasure those times.

Dear Millie and family,

I had the privilege and good fortune to work with Dr. Meneley within the UOIT Nuclear program, recording and broadcasting his wonderful lectures to the students.
Dan, always met me with a smile and shared many humorous anecdotes.
I will truly miss his sharp insight and light hearted outlook.
He always showed tremendous patience as I fought with technology to support his lectures.

My wife, Agnes, and I would like to extend our sincere condolence to Dan's family. Dr. Dan Meneley was my doctoral thesis supervisor in Nuclear Engineering at McMaster University while he was also head of the Nuclear Safety Analysis Division of Ontario Hydro. Apart from providing superb technical advice, Dr. Meneley moulded my professional character by setting personal examples. Two incidents remained in the minds of my wife and me throughout my work tenures at Whiteshell, Chalk River and Mississauga offices of AECL, holding our utmost respect and affection towards him. The first incident was, while being a commanding figure in OH and the rest of the nuclear industry and me a young student of his, he called me one morning, but could not reach me because I was on my way to school. He then talked to my wife, Agnes. He said, "Please let Peter know I am calling to apologize for a mistake I have made. He was right, and I was wrong." Well, it was some discussion on neutron scattering the previous day. We reached different conclusions, but both insisted we were right at the time. Agnes was madly impressed and held utmost respect towards him ever since. The second incident was, while I was conducting my doctoral thesis work, I tried to take some unjustifiable short cut in order to finish the work. Dr. Meneley said to me with a voice like a father speaking to his son, "Peter, remember, you can cheat everyone in the world but yourself." Because of him, I became a self-perpetuating professional till retirement, respecting high standards of integrity while serving in nuclear-reactor related groups in two-phase heat transfer safety R&D, radiation-protection instrumentation development, reactor radiation transport, Quality Assurance, and environmental protection.
Dan, I miss you for your mentoring and spiritual guidance. Thank you for bailing me out in various occasions. We love you and will be missing you.

I'm really glad that he got to make his final tour last summer and thankful that I got to participate in that final tour by spending time with you and him at Mum and Dad's and Manitou Beach. Dan, my earliest clear memory of you was when I was about 5 years old when you took me and Laird, Clay, Tracy, and Sandra out into a field at night behind Art's place in Yorkton. We looked up to the night sky and you explained that all the stars, were just like the sun. You told us about constellations and named them, and that immense distance made them small. You introduced me to basic science, more important you engaged my sense of wonder and fed my curiosity to know more. You made a positive difference for me when I was very young and I've never forgotten that, and I regret that I never you told you that.

When we lose great mentors, it's a time to reflect on the past and what the future holds. I met Dr. Meneley as a student at UNB. As my supervisor, he claimed the best thing he could teach me was the ability to 'fail' and how we all can learn from that failure. It took me some years to accept this and as we continued to talk over the past 35 years or so, we often disagreed on technical issues but we were always respectful that the facts needed to be justified. I will miss our exchanges and disagreements, and in particular, I will miss his friendship. May he RIP !

Dan's passing was extremely sad news! From Denise and me, sincerest condolences to Millie and the entire Meneley family at this very difficult time. Condolences as well from Dan's very numerous friends and colleagues in the Canadian Nuclear Society.
Dan will be very much missed. He was a great authority in the nuclear arena, he was a tremendous teacher and a great mentor. We all learned so much from Dan! He achieved so much in advancing knowledge and understanding in the nuclear industry, and in ensuring and enhancing safety. And most of all Dan was such a great friend to us.

We worked together a long time ago at Ontario Hydro and more recently with the Canadian Nuclear Society. His passion and drive for promoting and improving all aspects of the Canadian nuclear industry was amazing. He helped a lot of people in the industry over the years. Many, many years ago, Dan, was the executive leader of the nuclear design group that I was part of back in the good old Ontario Hydro days. I was a junior engineer just out of school and he was the Nuclear Group Manager so we were many levels apart. However, this didn't bother him as much as it did me; one day when I came into work he was sitting at my desk waiting to explain to me the nuances of a particular design that I was working on. He was a great mentor and a phenomenal teacher - we will all miss his wisdom. My condolences to the family and his many friends.
