I only now learned of Bob's passing and am so incredibly sad. I took every math class he taught at TASS in 1989/90 and after graduation, when he and Gail learned I was unemployed for the first six weeks of the summer, gave me a job on the farm (which I admittedly had no aptitude for, so it was a huge kindness on their part!). I called on Bob and Gail periodically until my last visit in 2014 when I brought my three year old son to visit. It was wonderful to see Bob and Gail again and I only found out about Bob's passing when I reached out to arrange another visit. From a love of math to a great example of how to mentor a teen and always be welcoming, Bob gave me so much. I will really miss him and wish the best for Gail and the entire family going forward.

I just saw this today. Awww…. He was my favourite teacher ever at Thomas A Stewart. If it wasn’t for him and all his encouragements in high school, I wouldn’t be the successful Person I am today. ❤️❤️

Dear Gail and Family;
We are saddened on hearing the loss of Bob. He will always be remembered as amazing giving man. We especially remember numerous times he helped judge the 4H lambs when our girls were involved. He was always positive with the kids and very encouraging. Knowing him has been a great honour.

My sympathies to Gail and Robin and the rest of Bob's family.I was saddened to hear of Bob's passing and was thinking only recently of how much he and Gail contributed to the sheep industry and to individuals such as myself who were coming into the business. He had an impressive combination of a mastery of the down-to-earth details of raising sheep and a sound grasp of the broad aspects of the business. And in all that he could keep his humour. I recall him asking me at one of the challenging times: "Are we having fun yet?" I realized I was and I think Bob was. Rest in peace after a life well lived.

Heartfelt condolences to Gail and family. Bob was and is an inspiration to shepherds of all ages and stages. He was to me and so many other shepherds out there. My husband Tim knew something important was going on in my head when I would come back from your farm and wax poetic about the marvel of building hurdles. No one else could have made something like hurdles so amazing Thank you for your experience, patience, and encouragement. You made the world a better place.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Gail and the Irvine family. Bob was a man who we greatly admired and respected. His knowledge and advice was invaluable to our sheep operation. His wealth of experience was given freely in the hopes of maintaining and improving the sheep industry. I can't think of anyone who has done more to mentor the new generations of shepherds. Aside from being a venerated role model, he was also a fun guy. I always get a smile on my face remembering him sneaking a cigarette with me behind the barn! If there is a heaven, I would envision Bob standing in a fresh green pasture surrounded by sheep and young people. Bob will be sorely missed. I wish Gail and the Irvine family all the barn best. Our hearts go out to you all.

Gail and family it is with a sad heart that I write this note. Even though we did not know each other you and Bob took me into your home during my visit for the funeral of Mrs Rosborough. Your kind generosity stuck with me and I felt the love you shared. Bob will be missed dearly but I am truly blessed to have met you both. May the memories you have get you through this tough time.

Sending love and prayers to the Irvine and Brown families.
Over the years, I enjoyed stopping by to chat with Bob and Gail about their wetland project. Bob was a great DUC project landowner and was always willing to share his project with others. He was kind, always smiling and willing to share a laugh. He was caring and wise... I will miss him.

My heartfelt condolences to Gail and family. Bob will be remembered with a smile on his face. He was a wonderful mentor to dozens of young and aspiring sheep farmers through the Farms at Work Sheep Field Course over the past 4 seasons. His deep knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for sharing it, as well as his good humour and open-mindedness made him a very special person.
