Obituary of Susan Patricia Buchanan
BUCHANAN: Susan Patricia (nee Smith)…Wife and Soul-mate of Bob Buchanan
Everyone loses at least once in life. The big one – DEATH! The inevitable END of us all. My best-friend-ever, and beloved wife for 51 years, at the age of 79 met up with and lost a short, vicious battle against a glioblastoma brain tumour. Nobody wins that fight!
After enduring surgery on May 13, then chemo and radiation therapy at Sunnybrook Hospital, she fought at home as long as humanly possible before entering palliative care at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on August 19, where she passed away on August 30 at approximately 8:30 AM. I believe that everyone who ever met Sue liked her greatly, and often loved her. She was that good a human being, in every possible way. I am a very fortunate man. She happily taught mathematics at several high schools and for many years at Sir Sandford Fleming College. She enjoyed classical music, especially when creating culinary masterpieces for her family and friends. When we met in our twenties, she played French Horn for the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. Golfing, boating, fishing and theatre in the Kawarthas, Algonquin area and South Texas in winter kept us busily happy together enjoying twenty retirement years of The Good Life. She amazed me with her natural putting skills – and always caught more fish with worms than I did with my fancy, expensive boy toys.
Sue will be missed terribly by me, and by our daughters Deb, Jenn, and Barb, and their spouses Ian, Jamie, and Darren, respectively. Grandchildren Heather, Russell, Connor, Lucas, Zack and Taylor know they have lost a wonderful grandmother – a model to emulate throughout life. Our large, extended family has been very supportive and feel her loss deeply. To mention only the closest few in this circle of grief: Sue’s brothers Eric and David Smith and their respective partners Alice and Claudia, my sister, Gayle and her husband Eugene Cassone, and my cousin Steve and his wife Joanne Glithero. Cremation has already occurred. Commitment of Sue’s cremated remains will be at the family home immediately following a funeral service at Saint Matthew – Saint Aiden Anglican Church in Buckhorn on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM. No donations or expressions of sympathy are encouraged. Rather, please find something you can say or do for someone who needs a smile, a bit of advice, or a financial boost up. Sue would like that!
