Obituary of Richard Irwin Smith
SMITH, Richard (Dick) Irwin
(VE3 HXC)
It is with extreme sadness that we announce Dick’s peaceful passing, one month prior to his 86th birthday. Beloved son of Dr. George C. Smith, D.D., and Elizabeth Sanderson Smith. Survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Sylvia, their children, Keith (Wendy), and Marybeth (Dave) Jolicoeur, granddaughters, Natalie (Darren) Conway and Nicole (Adam) Blinov, their children, Taylor, Ethan, and Sonny, step-grandchildren Amber, Chris, and step great-grandson Isaac. Also survived by his sister Mary Ann (Armand) Asselin, (Los Angeles) and Gordon, (Winnipeg), and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by Dusty, his loving Lhasa Apso. Dick and Sylvia married in Winnipeg at All Saints Anglican Church and moved to Toronto shortly after. Dick was an avid curler (Scarborough Golf Club) and a world traveler, even in his later years when he had limited mobility, which he accepted with the upmost grace. Upon retirement from 30 years after a successful career in sales Engineering at Honeywell Controls, Dick and Sylvia happily retired to their summer “paradise” on Buckhorn Lake. Our heartfelt thanks to Peterborough Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), dear Sally, for their compassion and excellent care, and Trent Lakes Fire Department for their many prompt responses. Donations to VON or Peterborough Community Access Centre would be appreciated so they may continue their excellent work in assisting with home care, or the charity of your choice. Relatives and friends are invited to call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL on Saturday June 18, 2016 from 12:30 – 1:30 PM with a funeral service to follow at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Lakefield at 2:00 PM.
