Dear Ruth, Cherylyn, Bill. Barry and Murray
We are so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob is someone you thought would be around forever, Bobcaygeon will never be the same. Bob truly is a Legend and we are so proud to have known him and were able to listen to his stories and share in his enthusiam of life. We often said "Bob, you should right a book" He would say "I would but no one would believe me" I have his obituary with his photo in my office at Canada Post where it will stay to remind me of all the fun we used to have working together. He will be missed. We certainly would have attended his service but we were away in Cuba.
Take care of each other

Mrs. Thompson, Bill, Murray, Cherylyn and Barry,
A kinder, more mischievous man I'd be hard to imagine.
Whoever wrote the words he lead 'a storied' life could not have found a better way to describe Bob (Mr. Thompson always to me).
You never met him that he didn't have some story to tell and way of pulling you in, by looking at you in his way and poke some fun out of something.
He was, and will remain to those who knew him - as one of the many local characters, with character. It's people like him that made growing-up ithe Kawartha's the very best. Mom (Aileen) and Dad (Dave) have a great many stories they tell about the days as Reeve and Warden - what a time they all had! Bob and his consorts are plenty missed.
I missed seeing him in the gold jacket and top hat - too bad sounds like just the outfit to recall him in.
"People we talk about are never really gone, just not here". If this true, Mr. Thompson will be one of those who is going be around for a long time. There are just to many good stories!
Sorry illness made it possible to attend in person, but my sincere sorrow in your loss is no less. Be well, all. Hugs to Mrs. Thompson

Bob was an important part of this community for many years . My contact with him was mainly at the hockey arena and Settlers' Village. Bob and Ruth were strong supporters of Bobcaygeon minor and junior hockey for many years. They were active participants. I always enjoyed visiting Bob and Ruth at the house each time there was an event at Settlers ' Village and we wanted to have the Model T participate. Bob's answer was always "we'll be there". Their participation continued in later years with Bill at the wheel. They were very attractive decked out in period apparel. Bob and Ruth are examples of people that are the foundation of the community. They lived here, raised their family ,were part of the business community , participated in local government , church life and community organizations. Our condolences go out to you at this time of loss.

Ruth, Bill, Murray, Barry...
My thoughts are with you - I am very deeply saddened to hear this news at such a great distance. I have so many happy memories of adventures with Bob - working at the Post Office, delivering rural mail (especially when it was Sears Catalog Day!) bringing boxes of "Common Sense" Cereal to MP Bill Scott, running all over town acting as a human starter-motor for his hand-crank Model T, getting the Jeep dolled up with its fancy portrait of The Queen for the Santa Claus or Fall Fair parades, helping him crew the annual Ladies' pontoon-boat cruise, getting ready for the hockey tournaments and most of all bringing all the geraniums up out of the basement every spring! Bob was a demanding but fair boss, and a great friend. One time I came to work and talked about a horse I had bought - Bob went out of his way to find, restore and "lend" to me a four-wheeled buggy which made many happy trips to and from the Fall Fair...
As a youngster, many of us looked up to Bob as a larger-than-life inspiration, and many of his colourful metaphors and expressions entered our everyday language and have passed on again to another generation. Bob taught us the value of hard work, loyalty, respect and lots of things we needed to know to become men. The last few years and work have taken me far from home, but you've always been in our hearts - and he will be sadly missed.
Much love,
David Clifford & Family

Uncle Bob's sister Marjorie (my Mom) always made sure we visited all her family down in Lakehurst and the surrounding areas so as a young child I have wonderful memories of spending many fun times at Aunt Ruth's and Uncle Bob's. We went for the weekend of the Bobcaygeon Fall fairs, Christmas dinners, winter weekends where we would ski on the lake and summer weekends and family reunions where Uncle Bob always made sure we got to water ski, have a ride in his antique Ford or tour the lake on his pontoon boat in later years. He always went out of his way to give all of us a fun time! He made everyone feel right at home the minute we walked in the door and always invited us back. He worked so hard and yet sure knew how to give everyone a fun time. Hats off to you, Uncle BOB!! Love, Bonnie XXXOOO

Ruth and Family,
I knew Bob primarily through my late husband, Laurie, who worked for Bob at various times. We would be recipients of a pineapple on your return from your winter vacation; nothing tasted better. We'd often get an early morning call; Laurie was to get to Bobcaygeon for a plane trip to Perth, Ottawa - a crusher job to be checked out. Life working for Bob was always an experience. My deepest condolences to the family; this man will be missed.
