Obituary of Gerald Beekenkamp

Gerry passed away peacefully from pancreatic cancer on Monday November 30, 2015 at the age of 78, in Lindsay, Ontario. He was the loving husband of Joanne, father to Sara (Allan) and Karen, and wonderful grandfather to Henry. He was also the warm older brother to Ron (Donna, and their family) and Jim (Pat), of Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a young man, Gerry studied architecture at the University of Manitoba and fondly remembered working for the Department of Transportation in the summers. He went on to become an industrial designer, and later inspired students in his teaching career at the Ontario College of Art and Design and Humber College, in Toronto. Over the course of his career, Gerry’s most recognizable design was a spiral slide, which was enjoyed by a generation of children in North America.
