Obituary of Thomas Edward Bennett

October 3, 2015 Peacefully at home in his 91st year with his beloved wife and daughter by his side. Tom was born in Cornwall, England and began his career as an aeronautical engineer with the de Havilland Aeronautical Technical School at Salisbury Hall and was involved in many projects including the DH 98 Mosquito and the DH 106 Comet. He was an active pilot and enjoyed flying the Tiger Moth and Chipmunk. He emigrated from England to Toronto, Canada to continue his career in the design department of the de Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada. There he worked on the DHC 3 Otter, the Grumman Tracker, the Dash 7, the HMCS Bras d'Or (FHE 400), Canadair's Challenger jet and finally the design of the tail section of the 300 Series Dash 8. Tom retired to enjoy life to the fullest with his wife, cruising the Bahamas on his trawler Shamu and spending time in his winter home in the wonderful retirement community of Hidden Harbor, Stuart, Florida. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Joan Armstrong, his children Keith (Lee), Amanda Roberts (Dale), Kevin, and Melinda Lovering (Brian), his stepchildren David and Brent (Karen) Armstrong, his grandchildren Andrew, Nicola, Taylor, Rhett, Dillon, Jesse and his great granddaughter Lauren Bennett. His step grandchildren Ashley, Joelle, Codi, Hayley & Colton. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Canoe Museum where Tom volunteered.
