I was shocked and very sad to hear the news today of Ada's passing. I only knew her as an acquaintance and customer beginning in the early days when the business was located in downtown Lakefield around from my house. I was new to town and used to drop in mostly to talk! I really liked Ada. I offer my sincere sympathy at this time of terrible loss. I am sorry that I heard the news too late to pay my respects in person but I will make a donation in her memory. She was a lovely person. I am so sorry Barbara Mann

Please know that Ada's gift of her kind spirit and sunny personality was extended so uniquely to those lucky enough to know her. Your Mom's contagious smile was given so freely to all.
For me, it was wonderful to see Ada in 'her usual pew' at St. Paul's - one that looked strangely empty when I returned from a summer teaching Sunday School at St. Peter's on the Rock.
She donated a kayak rental week-end to the 'Urban Adventure' challenge when I asked for a corporate donation to raise money for the treatment of cancer at PRHC. Ada always gave spontaneously from the heart.
What is enduring to me also, is the principled approach Ada took to life and high standards to which she held those seeking her support. As a candidate, before supporting me, she wished to know my position and that of my federal party on several moral issues in the context of her Catholic faith. Her principles were unyielding to passing circumstance.
A rare, treasured and remarkable friend, the world seems an emptier place this evening. Betsy

Ada has been such a good friend to me. She was really my first friend when we moved to Lakefield,11 years ago. I have many happy memories of us learning all the new steps from Chrissy over the years. We always thought that was what kept us young!
She spoke often about how proud she was of Emily and Ben. And she loved her trips with Graham to far off places.
I will never forget her coming to visit me during my illness. She was a bright ray of sunshine that made me feel better. I hope that I was a little bit of sunshine for her when I visited too.
She was taken far too young and my heart goes out to you all. She's in a better place and out of pain I know but, it is still painful for the rest.
I will miss her everyday....

Dear Graham, Emily and Ben,
I can’t say that I knew Ada very well, but our paths have crossed so many times over the years - in celebration of significant family milestones or sometimes just passing through the shop - that I feel as though I do, and I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing and so very sorry for your loss.
I will always remember her kind eyes and radiant smile. No matter what the occasion or how long it had been since I had last seen her, Ada was unfailingly warm and welcoming, and took a genuine interest in me and my family.
In recent years we have made a tradition of stopping in at the shop on our way to drop off my son at Camp Ponacka. In his first year, my son was eager but very anxious about his impending camp experience. Though she would have only met my son a couple of times before this, Ada intuitively understood where his mind was and proceeded to ask him questions and offer ideas that stoked his eagerness and calmed his nerves. I remember driving away from the shop with my son smiling in the back seat, both grateful for her maternal intuition and amazed by how she knew exactly the right things to say to encourage him.
I only wish I knew exactly the right thing to say to the three of you at this time.
I hope all of you can find comfort in her memory and the warmth and kindness she exuded, and be inspired by the fine example she set.

Our memories of Ada:
We have been guests in your home on a few occasions, enjoyed learning to kayak, walked dogs together after an early morning coffee on your deck overlooking the lake, and one January weekend several years ago, our family skated together with you on the outdoor oval ice. We visited your outdoor adventure store, created a blue and white kayak and talked about our kids, dogs and the simple pleasures in life over a home-cooked meal and a glass of wine. You welcomed us into your home as if we were your family. Your genuineness and love of the outdoors made a lasting impression on us.

Dear Graham and family,
I am very sorry to hear of the tremendous loss of Ada. Our lives intersected in the hallowed halls of Champlain College and being part of the Trent University and Peterborough Rowing Clubs for several years in the heyday of the 1979-early 80s period. It was clear that Ada exuded positive energy, had a contagious laugh, was a hard worker /supportive team member, and constantly strove for excellence. I played soccer with Ada. What a beautiful soft spoken woman. I enjoyed playing soccer with her and she was so generous she invited the whole soccer team to spend a girls weekend at her home. She taught us how to kayak at that time. I haven't seen Ada for a few years but I truly am sorry for your loss.

I knew her as a child and young lady and am very grateful to have had the chance to re-connect and have a visit with her after years of not seeing her.
