My wife Anita and I are so dumbfounded by the news of James passing away. James had completed some work for us and I immediately knew that I was talking to a man with honesty and integrity. After completing some initial work, I called him back for more - and I can honestly say that this man was as true to his word as gold!
I called him today and found out this very sad news - my heart is shattered, only knowing James as a client. I can only imagine what his family and friends are feeling and please know you have our deepest condolences. We're so sorry we didn't know sooner.
James - rest in peace. Brooke and family, I know he loved you all before anything else - his spirit I'm sure will never be too far away from you and the children.

James always enjoyed family, work, and community. He spent many hours in Len's 'Workshop' in Hastings over the years and has touched my home by building things and helping with projects. I cannot imagine the loss to everyone. From here in India I am reminded that the memory of the love of those gone is carried on through the family and friends. Words alone cannot express the pain that you and this community are feeling. James was the type of person who would light up a room as soon as he walked in. Weather it be at the arena or at a job site, James always had a big smile on his face and a friendly "hello". Take comfort knowing that he loved life as much as he loved you and his children. Like many, Blair and I are lost for words relative to this deeply tragic news. We came to meet James because we were in search of someone to build our Garage Coach House in Warkworth and through the referral of friends...James showed up to discuss the project. What a privilege to connect with such a caring, thoughtful, sensitive, lighthearted, professional and an enormously talented man in terms of both design savvy and construction expertise. Of course, we were immediately drawn to his genuine, engaging "loveable" nature.
His magical work will remind of us every single day of what a passionate, genuine, gifted and talented professional he was to so many.

As is with anything in life, first impressions are important. I met James and his family only on a couple of occasions, the first at the Let Them Be Kids kick off fund raising party and the second when he was doing renovation work at the home of my niece (Patricia Heffernan).
My first impression of James was "Yep, I'd crack a beer on my deck with that guy any day". That's just the kind of guy James was, you liked him right from the get go.
Brooke - it may seem a long way away right now, but you and your family will laugh again, and that will put the biggest grin on James' face. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
