It is with great sadness that I am writing to express our condolences to Peter, Edward and the Heffernan and Vogel families. Mary Jo's sense of humour was well known to her neighbours on Grant Avenue (in Lakefield) and the readers of her writing in the local paper. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
In Sympathy,
Sandra Mitchell and the Mitchell family

It is with great sadness that I write these words of sympathy. My heart aches for you all. If Mary Jo could hear me now I would say: "Thank you Mary Jo for being a part of our lives. Your touching stories and beautiful music will remain in our hearts always. I am reminded of an angel named Legna at this time and I am grateful. With deepest sympathy.

I just heard about the passing of Mary Jo and am so saddened. When I returned to teaching I was posted to St. Mary's, Grafton as a SERT working with Mary Jo. I was brand new to that type of position and could not have asked for a more helpful partner. Mary Jo worked only part time and by the time she came in each day her desk would be covered with my little post-it note questions. She was always so patient answering them. One of my best memories of Mary Jo was the day I was trying to get the tune of this little song in one of the primary readers and I asked Mary Jo if she was any good at music. She said, "A little." and helped me out. As things happen it was the next day that I found out from another staff member just how musically talented Mary Jo was. I was so embarrassed! Mary Jo and I had quite a few laughs about that episode. What a wonderful person. Although I never met her husband or son I do know she spoke of them often and lovingly.

Heffernan and Logel families.
It is with tears in my eyes that I type this. When I think of Mary-Jo two thing in particular come to mind, her kindness and the fact that she could hit a baseball farther than anyone else could. The world is definetly a colder place with her gone. I was lucky enough to have called her my friend
My sympathy and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
Helen Sullivan and family.

To the Logel & Heffernan Families;
It is with sadness that we have lost a great person. I remember all too well, Mary Jo growing up with her sibblings and the fun she had with you all. I loved listening to all your songs when I would go to Church in Lakefield and seeing the smile on Mary Jo's face as she would sing her heart out. Those were the best days of my life and I will cheerish those good memories forever. Mary Jo and your family made it possible for people to smile.I always enjoyed your family's company and the love showed by Mary Jo, who was a beautiful person. God bless you all at this time. Sincerely,
Brenda (Heffernan) Holmes

I am saddened by your passing Mary-Jo but rejoice in the fact that heaven's choir just became one member stronger. Your legacy will live on through your family, in our memories and in the words of your songs. May God comfort your family at this time of loss and it is my prayer that you roamed through the gardens and streets of gold and found Bernadette....I know she would have been waiting I can almost hear heaven's choir from here. Until we meet again my sweet....Until we meet again....
With Love:

Heffernan & Logel Families,
We are saddened to hear of Mary Jo's passing. She was such a wonderful vibrant personality and such a pleasure to know. Being around the Heffernan home alot growing up there are many memories of Mary Jo and Betty Ann always watching out for the younger siblings. Mary Jo was always quick to get in on a good conversation and stroll down memory lane. And of course music could happen at any time!!! In the days and weeks ahead may your beautiful memories of her give you all great comfort. Simply put...she was one in a million...she was Mary Jo! You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
