Obituary of Robert Bowen
Bowen, Robert (Bob) 1929-2013
Bob's special sense of humour is now just a cherished memory. He passed peacefully on Wednesday June 19, 2013 in Peterborough, surrounded by his family. Bob leaves behind his loving wife Barbara (McCormick) and their children Paul, Tom and Janet (John Gennaro). Treasuring the memory of 'Poppy' are his grandchildren Laura, Natalie and Joseph. Bob was predeceased by his parents Gwendolyn and James, siblings, Merle, Fraser, Allan and Jack. He is survived by his twin sister Peg (McDonald) of Denver.
Bob had a wonderful life that included a very successful career with Johnson & Johnson and leaves behind treasured colleagues and many clients who became good friends from those days. With more connections than anyone could count, he also says goodbye to the many neighbours and friends in Oshawa, where he and Barb spent many of their years. Bob will be remembered in Lakefield for his red scooter and friendly smile to all he passed. Frustrated by failing health in the past years, he persevered to live life to its fullest. He fought the good fight, but in the end, knew the time had come. He welcomed the release from his earthly ties with his usual strength, dignity - and humour.
The family extends their most heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Lakefield-Peterborough medical community for their outstanding care and compassion, especially the Palliative Care team at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Those wishing a final visit with Bob can join the family at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield, on Friday June 21, 2013 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday June 22, 2013 at 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Douro. A reception following the Mass will be held at the Heritage Room of the Hendren Funeral Home.
Family burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Douro.
In lieu of flowers, Bob would appreciate donations to the Palliative Care Unit at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he spent his last days being comforted. Friends may send condolences or arrange donations at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-652-3355.
As Bob might say:
"If your ship doesn't come in - swim out to meet it!"
