Obituary of Alma Saarkoppel

Passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Extendicare Lakefield, on Thursday, September 9th, 2022. Alma Saarkoppel née Artwohl, was in her 83rd year. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Helgo of almost 60 years. Alma will also be deeply missed by her daughters Ingrid and Kristina and her two granddaughters Juliana and Ariana. She will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews Martin, Leila, Kerstin, Lani, Andrea, Karen and their families. 

Alma was born in Toronto, Ontario to recently immigrated Austrian parents in 1939. She came from a family of passionate musicians and spent her youth studying the piano at the Toronto Royal Conservatory. She was a devoted wife, mother and dynamic piano teacher in Scarborough for over 30 years. When she moved to Buckhorn after she and her husband retired, she continued to teach and accompany choirs in Peterborough while also experiencing the joys of becoming a grandmother. Her love for music and children was deeply felt by many. Her zest for life was an inspiration to all who knew her. She generously shared her “joie de

vivre” throughout her lifetime.

Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating Alma’s life at the Hendren Funeral Home – Lakefield Chapel located on 66 Queen Street, Lakefield. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 from 12:30-2:30 pm. With service to follow at 2:30 pm.
